Family Matinee

The Naperville Independent Film Festival (NIFF) caps off the week's activities with the
Family Matinee on September 27, 2008 from 10am – 2pm at the Alfred E. Rubin
Community Center located at 305 W. Jackson in Naperville – at the corner of
Eagle and Jackson. Adults and youths of all ages will experience various
workshops, entertainment, interactive booths, and special “Movie
Characters” throughout the festival.
A familiar face to Disney fans as well as a proud former Napervillian, Featured
Disney Star and Naperville native, Kay Panabaker is scheduled to appear
to lead an actor’s workshop and hold a question/answer and autograph session.
Kay Panabaker Biography
Kay attended Kendall Elementary and Crone Middle School in Naperville and while
in Naperville, she performed at Chicago Shakespeare Company and did film work
for the American Girl Company, as well as TV and radio commercials and modeling
store and photo shoots with local retail chains.
Since moving to California, Kay has performed in many sitcoms, dramas, and
films. Best known as
Nikki Westerly
on the WB’s,
“Summerland,”
Kay can also be seen on reruns of Disney Channel’s
“Phil of the Future”
as
Debbie Berwick
and on
"CSI"
playing the daughter of Marg Helgenberger's character. She has also guest
starred in roles on
“The Suite Life of Zack & Cody,” “Medium,” “ER,” “7th
Heaven,” “Two and a Half Men,” "Boston Legal," and “Ghost Whisperer.”
Kay’s film
experience includes: “Moondance Alexander,” “Nancy Drew,” “Read It and Weep,”
and
“The Prince & The Pauper.”
After graduating Valedictorian from her high school at age 13, Kay received her
Bachelor’s degree in history from UCLA at the age of 17. Thanks to the
inspiration of her Naperville teachers; Kay hopes to become a teacher herself
some day.
Kay Fun Facts:
• Kay has visited all 50 states.
• She has appeared on all five major networks as well as several cable channels.
• She had her first kiss on screen with Zac Efron.
• Her favorite things include animal interactions: swimming with a sea turtle,
dolphins, manatees, stingrays, sharks, and sea lions. Kay has even fed a bottle
to a baby giraffe.
Panels and Workshops
The Family Matinee has scheduled the following workshops lead by professionals
in the film industry.
Reservations are required as seats are limited.
Schedules are subject to change without notice. However, we will do our
best to keep everyone informed through this Web site and e-mails.
There is no fee to attend these workshops. Your entry ticket to the Family
Matinee (only $5 per person) and your reservation (see the links below each
workshop) is all that is required.

Kidz ‘n Cameras: Making TV Happen
10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Workshop Facilitator: Carl Schultz, Operations Supervisor for Naperville Community Television
What does it take to make TV? Schultz will have the kids
operating cameras, audio, and performing in a short video to get an overview of
television production. The program is targeted for ages 10-14, but all ages are
invited to watch the taping unfold on a video monitor. Schultz’s technical
expertise combined with his ability to connect with kids makes for a fun and
engaging experience.

Makeup and Costumes for Hollywood
11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Workshop Facilitator: Julane Sullivan from All Dressed Up in Batavia, Illinois.
Julane will explain the secrets of special effects makeup! You might walk away
with your very own bloody wounds and bruises to latex noses, warts, and
scars. You will be a hit at Halloween this year!

In the Screening Room

Come and watch funny, outrageous, and thought-provoking films created by young
filmmakers from Naperville. Films will be shown in-between showings of
"The Dark Knight Project".
Meet Josh Larsen
Meet Josh Larsen, Movie
Critic for the Naperville Sun. Try to stump Josh with movie trivia and
discuss movies and their significance in today's world.
Kay Panabaker
will speak about making it in show business from Naperville to
Hollywood. She’ll answer questions and sign autographs! (Space is limited)
Kidz Kabaret
students will perform musical numbers from movie films and
musicals. Kidz Kabaret is Chicago’s no-audition theatre education group located

Hernandez hosts movie trivia contests between all of the main stage activities
and entertainment.
Wild West Interactive Activities
Be ready to step in and be a star! You never
know what will happen on our movie set today! Come and watch a real old
fashioned Wild West set. But beware! There will be surprises and silliness. Bring
your cameras and perhaps a towel!
Movie Characters
will greet and enchant
youths of all ages!! They may even sign autographs and take pictures with guests
of the festival! Actors from local theatre groups are represented at the
festival!
